Scheduling a Message for the Future

Paige gives you the ability to write a message today and decide when it reaches the people who matter most to you. That might be a future birthday, a milestone you may not be there to celebrate, or a moment your loved ones will need your voice the most.

This article walks you through the scheduling options available when you share a message, so you can make an intentional choice that fits what you're trying to do.

Scheduling a Message for a Specific Future Date

If you want your message to go out on a particular date — a birthday, an anniversary, a graduation, or any moment that matters — the Later option is your starting point.

  1. Inside the Share Your Message panel, open the Send Timing dropdown.
  2. Select Later.
  3. A date picker will appear. Choose the date you'd like the message to be delivered.
  4. Select your contacts in the Choose Contacts dropdown if you haven't already.
  5. Click Confirm to lock in your choices.
  6. Click Save Message to finalize and store your message.

Letting a Delegate Decide When to Send It

Sometimes you don't want to tie a message to a fixed date. Maybe it's guidance that should only go out once a certain situation unfolds, or a letter you want a trusted person to deliver when the time feels right. That's where “Delegates can trigger” comes in.

When you choose this option, the message is held until one of your delegates decides to send it. Your delegate won't be able to read the message in advance, they'll simply have the ability to release it when they believe the moment is appropriate.

A best practice here is to have a conversation with your delegate ahead of time. Let them know the message exists and share any context that would help them know when to send it. Is it meant to congratulate a bride on her future wedding day? A friend that accomplishes a big goal? The more clarity you give them, the more confidence they'll have in the moment.

If you haven't yet assigned a delegate, this option won't have anyone to act on it. Make sure you have at least one active delegate in your Contacts before relying on this delivery method.

Sending After Your Passing or in an Emergency

The After-death / in case of emergency option is designed for the messages you want delivered once your passing has been verified through Paige's process, or in the event of a defined emergency.

Messages set to this timing will appear in the Future Delivery section of your Messages page and will remain held until the appropriate trigger occurs.

You can think of this option as the most protected form of scheduling. These messages are a way to be present for the people you love even when you can't be. Many people use this for final expressions of love, practical instructions, or things they always meant to say.

The delivery of these messages depends on a delegate reporting your passing and completing the verification process. A best practice is to make sure your delegates know this responsibility exists and understand what's involved. You can learn more about how that process works in "How Delegates Report a Passing"

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

Regardless of which timing option you choose, here are some things worth thinking through before you save:

  • Recipients need to be added to your contacts first. You can only send messages to people already in your Contacts list. If someone is missing, add them there before scheduling.
  • You can create multiple messages with different timing. There's no limit to how many messages you schedule, and they can each go to different people at different times.
  • Saved messages can be revisited. If something changes, you can navigate back to your Messages list via the ← Messages breadcrumb and review what you've set up.
  • Your message is stored securely until it's delivered. Nothing goes out before the timing condition you've set is met.

Once you've confirmed your contacts and timing and clicked Save Message, you'll see a confirmation and your message will appear in your Messages list — either in the main list or under the Future Delivery section, depending on the timing you chose.

Common Questions

"Can I change the delivery date after I've saved a message?"

You can navigate back to your Messages list using the ← Messages breadcrumb and review your saved messages. Check there for editing options. If something needs to change, that's where to start.

"What happens if my delegate never triggers the message?"

If you've chosen Delegates can trigger, the message will remain held indefinitely until a delegate sends it. This is one reason it's worth having a conversation with your delegates about what messages exist and any intentions you have around them.

"Can I schedule the same message to go to multiple people?"

Yes. In the Choose Contacts dropdown, you can select more than one recipient. They'll all receive the message according to the same delivery timing you've set.

"Will my recipients know a scheduled message is coming?"

No. Scheduled messages are private until they're delivered. Your recipients won't receive a notification that a message exists for them.
