What Can My Contacts Access?

Sharing Is Always Your Choice

Everything you store in Paige belongs to you, and nothing reaches a contact unless you deliberately share it. When you do share a file or document, your contact receives access to view it, but that's where their involvement ends.

Sharing a file with a contact does not give them any ability to edit, delete, or modify your stored information in any way. Your account, and everything in it, remains fully under your control.

What a Contact Can Do With Shared Files

When you share a file with a contact, here's what they're able to do:

  • View the file in their Shared With Me area
  • Download a copy of the file to their own device

That's it. Contacts can look at what you've shared and save a copy for their own reference. Nothing more.

Downloading a file doesn't affect your original. Your uploaded document stays exactly as you left it in your account.

What a Contact Cannot Do

It's worth being clear about what doesn't happen when you share with someone:

  • They cannot edit or update the file you shared
  • They cannot delete the file from your account
  • They cannot upload anything to your account
  • They cannot see anything in your account that you haven't specifically shared with them
  • They cannot make any changes that affect what you see in Paige

Think of it like handing someone a photocopy of an important document. They can read it, they can keep it, but they can’t make changes to the original document or how that document is stored.

A Note on Delegates

Delegates are a special type of contact with a different level of responsibility and access. If you've assigned someone as a delegate, their role — and what they can do — works a bit differently than a standard contact.

"Learn more about delegates and their role"

The Delegates article covers how delegate access works, when it's activated, and how to choose the right people for this important role.

Common Questions

"If a contact downloads a file, does my original change?"

No. Downloads create a separate copy on the contact's device. Your original file in Paige stays untouched.

"Can a contact see everything in my account once I share one file?"

No. Contacts can only see what you've specifically chosen to share with them — nothing else in your account is visible to them.

"Can I stop sharing a file with a contact after I've already shared it?"

Yes. You can manage sharing permissions from within your documents at any time. A best practice is to review who has access periodically, especially if your circumstances change.

"What if I want someone to be more involved — like helping me manage things?"

That's what delegates are for. "Read about the delegate role" to understand the difference and decide if that's the right fit.
