How to Share a Document with a Contact

Sharing a document takes just a few clicks, and you can share with anyone you trust.

Before you can share a document, you'll need to have at least one contact saved in Paige. If you haven't added anyone yet, "add a contact first" and then come back here, or add them in the sharing sub-menu that pops up when you choose to share.

Sharing a Document

  1. From the top navigation, click Documents.

  2. You'll land on the By Category view by default. Find the category that contains the document you want to share — for example, Finance & Tax or Medical.

  3. Expand the category to see your uploaded files. Uploaded documents will show a row of small icons to the right. Look for the share icon (↗), it appears only on documents you've already uploaded.

  4. Click the share icon (↗) next to the document you'd like to share.

  5. A prompt will appear asking you to choose who to share with. Select a contact from the dropdown, this list will include everyone you've added to your contacts. You can also quickly add a new contact during this step.

  6. Confirm your selection. The contact will be notified and can view a read-only copy of the document.

That's it! Once shared, the document will appear under the Shared with Me tab when that contact logs in to their own Paige account.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

  • You stay in control. Sharing a document gives your contact read-only access, they can download and view it, but they can't edit or delete it.
  • You can share with any contact. There's no requirement for someone to have a special role in order to receive a shared document. If they're in your contacts, you can share with them.
  • Not sure who to share with? Think about who might need this document in an emergency, or who you'd want to have a copy on hand. A best practice is to share important documents — like your will, insurance policies, or medical directives — with at least one or two trusted people.

If you don't see the share icon (↗) next to a document, it may not have been uploaded yet. Look for the upload icon (↑) on that row to add your file first.

How to See What You've Already Shared

You can check on your shared documents at any time.

  1. Go to Documents.
  2. Click the All Files tab at the top of the page.
  3. Shared documents will be indicated there, so you can see what's been sent and to whom.

Common Questions

"What if I want to stop sharing a document?"

Revoking access to a shared document is done by navigating to your documents page, and clicking the sharing icon next to your document, there you can manage who you share the document with.

"Can I share a document with someone who isn't a contact yet?"

Not quite — you'll need to add them as a contact first, which can be done right there and then in the sharing sub-menu that comes up.
